Vocational - Project Lead the Way






Project Lead the Way
  • Project Lead the Way has both the Engineering Component and Health Component.

    • The Engineering Component:

      • There will be a 30 student computer drafting lab that will connect directly to the production lab.

      • The production lab will accommodate student exploration of simulated environments and projects.

      • Off of the production lab there will be a storage area and office for the instructor.
    • The Health Component:

      • The Health Component of Project Lead the Way is still in curricular development, but will accommodate the exploration of health careers in a simulated setting that will have typical set-ups for:

        • A Clinic Setting

        • Patient Care

        • One on one patient experiences

        • Emergency based response

        • Childcare and basic nursing skills

        • Etc.

Vocational - Machining Shop


Machining Shop notes:
  • Entry to the Machining Shop would be either through the computer lab/classroom, directly into the shop itself through from the corridor, or from the delivery door and man/door on the south side of the building.
  • The computer lab/classroom:

    • The computer lab/classroom would be set up with 30 computer stations that could be used for instruction or individualized work by the students.
    • The teacher desk would be located closer to the teaching wall.
    • On the south side of the room, there would be ½ glass wall for vision into the shop area. There would be ½ size lockers below the window for storage of student personal belongings.
  • Directly outside of the classroom/lab would be a utility sink in an alcove. The sink would have 2 goose neck faucets for hand washing.

  • There would be an office for the instructor on the east wall with a ½ vision panel in the door.

  • The shop :

    • The shop would be set up with room for 14 milling machines, 16 lathes, 2 computer operated welding machines, and room for grinders and finishers on the floor.

      • The machines would be served by overhead utilities, including power, exhaust, and compressed air.
    • There would be 2 welding stations in the southeast corner, with an 8’ work bench to the north of the stations.

    • The delivery would be accomplished with an overhead door that could accommodate a hydraulic lift to assist in unloading deliveries.

    • The storage area would be approximately 200 square feet and would be set up to accommodate shelves.

    • There would be tool storage on both the east and west walls.

    • There would be elevated "caged" storage along the west wall, and that would be served by a rolling ladder, similar to a "parts store".

    Vocational - Print Shop



    Print Shop notes:
    • The Print Shop would consist of a graphics computer lab, a service counter, open space for arrangement of printing machines, a photo silk screen production area, and a receiving/shipping area.
    • The graphics computer lab

      • The space would be set up with 30 stations for group instruction or individualized computer graphic work.

      • The east wall would serve as the "teaching wall"

      • There would be ½ windows on the west wall for vision into the printing production shop.

      • There would also be windows on the south wall to allow for visibility into the storage room for student supervision.

      • Under the west wall of the lab/classroom, on the shop side, there would be closed cabinet storage.
    • The Service Counter

      • To create a more realistic, professional environment, there would be a service counter at the entry to the space. This would serve as a location to take specific orders for printing, and would have sufficient layout space to work through specifics of the order. It would be similar to the service counter at a "Kinkos"

      • Behind the service counter would be the layout space and storage for orders and pick-ups.
    • The general Shop area:

      • The general shop area would be set-up with overhead feeds of power and compressed air as required.

      • General lighting would provide ample illumination for general viewing and observation.
    • The Photo Silk Screen area:

      • The Photo Silk Screen area is arranged along the west wall, with the photo-emulsion room at the north end.

        • This would actually be a "darkroom" with a light sealing door….not a rotating one, but one with light seals on all sides.

        • This would be a room with sufficient space to expose the emulsion covered screens to the high intensity light source.

        • There would also be room for storage of emulsion and fabric stock as required.
      • Directly to the south of the "darkroom" would be the washout sink, with a high pressure hose. The wall will need to be protected around the sink. This would be similar to a wash-out sink, typically found in a photo dark room, but it would be located in the main space…in the light.

      • On to the south of the sink would be storage for the screens and inks, with a production table/counter to the east.

      • The "drying" unit would be at the end of the sequence.
    • The Instructor’s Office:

      • The instructor’s office is located in the southwest corner of the space with vision glass on at least 2 sides of the office for supervision.
    • The receiving/storage area:
        • The receiving storage area would complete the sequence of spaces in the Printing Shop. The space would be set up to either receive and store paper products, and provide a secure space to set up for pick up of finished printing projects for other schools in the district.

      Vocational - Auto Shop

      AUTO SHOP FLOOR PLAN
      Auto Shop Notes:

      • 6 bays for auto work
      • One overhead vehicle entry door (south side), one vehicle exit door (west side) similar to an auto dealer setup.
      • Overhead doors should be oversized (10' x 10' min.)
      • Shop shall have higher volume - 18'-0" min. clear to bottom of joists above.
      • All lifts shall be above ground
      • Raised platform shall be located along north wall for additional tool storage and work areas.
      • A hoist beam shall be provided along roof structure over the platform to allow heavy items to be hauled onto platform.
      • A trench drainage will be provided in the middle of the floor.
      • Machining area will be located adjacent to the office in the shop.
      • Windows will be provided for daylighting up high on the exterior walls.
      • Movable check-in station will be provided adjacent to the vehicular entry door.
      • Front-end machine shall be located in open area adjacent to the office.
      • Cabinets for filters and other materials will be located along the north and south walls of the shop
      • Desk area with counter and storage will be provided in the southeast corner.
      • 2 eyewash stations/emergency showers will be provided adjacent to the desk area
      • Overhead exhaust tubing will be supplied to each bay.
      • Overhead oil and compressed air will be provided to all of the bays.
      • Floor shall be an epoxy finish on concrete (sim. to a car dealership)
      • Foot pedal sinks shall be located on both sides of the shop near the repair bays.
      • Key drop box from exterior adjacent to vehicular overhead door entry.
      Office:
      • Office will be located adjacent to classroom and shop.
      • Windows will be provided to allow vision into all of the surrounding rooms.
      • Direct access to the corridor will be provided from the office
      • Two desks shall be provided in the office
      Classroom:
      • Set up for 28 students
      • (40) 1/2 size lockers shall be placed along one wall of the classroom.
      • Double door from classroom to shop will have a removable mullion
      Storage:
      • Air compressor for the shop will be located in the storage room.
      Fluids Room:
      • 55 gallon drums of oil and antifreeze will be located here. 
      • Direct access to the outside is required for drop off of barrels.
      • Overhead lines from the shop will connect to the barrels in this room.
      Tool Room
      • Check out counter open to the Vestibule will be provided from the secure tool room.
      Vestibule 
      • Bookshelves will be provided along the north wall of the area.

      Administration Offices

      Administration Notes:

      • 4 primary entries to the Administration areas will be provided
        • Main Office:
          • Public entry to school through Main Entry will be directed to the Attendance area through the secure vestibule except during school opening and closing times.
          • The Security office is located adjacent to Main Entry to monitor comings and goings to the school.
          • H.S. Principal's Office and Freshman Center Principal's Office are located along exterior wall with shared conference room between them.
          • Large conference room is located off the corridor adjacent to Main Reception .
        • Student mentoring:
          • Separate entrance with reception area and Student Holding area. 
          • Assistant Principals offices located directly adjacent to the reception area
        • Special Ed.
          • Separate entrance to the group of Special Ed. offices. 
          • Case Conference room specifically for Special Ed. meetings
        • Guidance:
          • Closest location to student traffic area (commons)
          • Large reception area with area for pamphlets and other student resource materials.
          • Counter along back wall of reception for student computer access.
          • Conference Room adjacent to Guidance Reception and Guidance offices.
        • Athletics:
          • Entry off corridor that accesses new main Gym.
          • Reception area.
          • Central Kitchenette with storage room.
          • Central Conference Room with direct access from the Athletic Director's Office.
        • Support:
          • Break Room, File Storage, Restrooms, and other support spaces located along back section of the Administration wing.

      Special Education

      West Lake Rooms to be located in the
      first floor of the Freshman Center
      Special Education/West Lake Notes:

      • Special Ed. rooms shall be located on the First Floor of the Freshman Center.
      • The classrooms will be set up as typical classrooms with a counter for computers along one wall. The opposite wall will include base cabinets for room storage.
      • Centralized special rooms will be provided with direct access from the classrooms.
        • Life Skills will be laid out to resemble an apartment space with the following:
          • Kitchenette
          • Bed
          • Living Area
          • Washer/Dryer
        • 2 over sized restrooms will be provided that will allow for assistance if required.
        • A padded Time Away room and a Sensory Room will allow for individual break out space.
        • Production Room will be used for crafts and other activities shared by all the classrooms.

      • Alternative Education Rooms will be located in the two existing classrooms of the Freshman Center directly north of the new West Lake suite of rooms. This location provides close proximity to the exterior and to public restrooms.

      • Special Education Resource Rooms will also be integrated into the academic wings on each floor.
        • 1st floor resource rooms are located between the Business and Science rooms.
        • 2nd and 3rd floor resource rooms will be located in the central "wedge" area.
        • The rooms are smaller than typical classrooms because the student load is expected to be less
        • Resource rooms shall be equipped with countertops for computer stations
        • A Project Room is provided for one on one or small group meetings.
        • The academic wing is planned to be divided by grade per floor.
